Annie Galen Rentz
I grew up in Santa Cruz, California, where my father gave me my first carpentry lesson when I was only about four years old. It wasn’t very long before I spent more time building beds and houses for my dolls than I did playing with them. My child- and young adulthood were full of various amateur carpentry projects, and deep down I always knew that somehow, someday, carpentry would be my destiny. Fast forward through the years I bartended in order to support my musical ambitions, and a few years In Spain, where I ran a hostal in the mountains outside of San Sebastian. “Somehow” has happened and “Someday” is now. In the mid 20-teens I started building with friends and working in various shops around town, and then was lucky enough to get hired by one of Portland’s premier, high-end construction firms. I worked with that awesome crew for about six years before striking out on my own to form Athena Carpentry and Contracting in 2024. I absolutely love what I do and the tradespeople and clients that I work with, and I feel so blessed to go to a job every day that I would still do even if I never had to work another day in my life!
